There currently does not exist an organizing body specifically tailored for communications professionals working in colleges of engineering. A consequence of this is a lack of formal networking and sharing opportunities for learning best practices and collaborating. Because many of these professionals communicate directly with the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), the Society is an obvious organizer of an event to bring these professionals together.

Thus, ASEE will host an Engineering Communication Professionals workshop at its headquarters in Washington, DC in July 2018. The meeting will have sessions on social media, communicating about engineering, infographics, “cool ideas” (modeled on a similar session at the Engineering Deans Institute), and more. There will be ample time for networking with colleagues and interacting with members of the media.

Attendees will learn from peers, take new ideas back to their institution to improve their own communications efforts, and expand their professional network, ultimately aiding in spreading the word about activities at their home institution.
